“To be or not to be”

A couple of weeks ago I submitted an application for a Service Desk position at my current job. This would have been an awesome opportunity for me as I would have been closer to the Software Development team. That’s my ultimate goal with my current employer. I’ve done web app development in my current position, however the visibility is fairly low. Only about 5 people really use the software and just a handful of others that benefit from it’s use. So this position would allow me to get my name up a little higher and allow others to see some of my work.

There were a few concerning issues from the get go:

  • Schedule : (school is right smack in the middle of the day)
  • Training : (three weeks in VA)
  • Schedule : (conflicts with other job)

After an initial and second interview I was given the ‘bad news’. I say ‘bad news’ because it could turn out to be better this way. Now I won’t have to leave for three weeks in the middle of the semester, I won’t have to find a way to juggle both jobs and I won’t have to get up at 5:00 am for work. All good news, so I really believe that this is an opportunity that will come again, and hopefully when that happens I will be in a better position to take this job.

I’ve already been told that the main reason I wasn’t considered further was because of the scheduling issues, so at least I know I am qualified. I’ll let you know how things turn out as time goes on.

Pick of Destiny

This movie is probably best watched by those who have listened to Tenacious D non-stop for about 5 months, while living in a warehouse and working at a different warehouse, both of which were located in the middle of a giant sandbox in Southwest Asia. If you’ve sang Softly over the loud speaker while at this same warehouse, then you’ve already seen the movie. I know because both of us got scolded by our higher ups. It was quite funny.

If thats not you, then you will still see the humor in much of this movie, but you may not appreciate it as much. Many of the comical parts are based loosely off the first album as this movie is really about how the band got started.

Jack Black (JB) comes from a conservative family that look down on his rock lifestyle. (By the way the kid who plays young JB almost nails his character) He runs away and after what appears to be several years finally finds the right Hollywood. He meets Kyle (KG) a street musician whose only source of revenue is from royalty checks from his “Canadian album Pumpkin”. Kyle is preparing for the Kyle Gass Project in which there will be “ten times hotter girls back stage”. JB wants to join the KGP, so he begins training with Kyle. While training JB learns to power-slide and take beer bottles to the face like a champ. During training however it’s discovered that the royalty checks are actually rent checks from Kyle’s mother. His parents decide to stop supporting him and the truth is revealed about KGs past. KG is nothing, but a street musician who is struggling to make ends meet. After KG spent the last rent check on a gift for JB, the two decide that they must use their rocking pay the bills. Thus beginning one of the greatest adventures ever recorded on film.

So go watch the movie and let me know what you think.

Disclaimer: If you are extremely conservative you will probably be offended, however you will probably not be reading this post. You probably don’t even watch movies.

Thanks for being patient

Ha! Like you were waiting for me to finally start a website. Well, if you were, you’ve found it. I’ve had some other sites before, but I thought it was time I actually created something worth keeping around for a few years. Now that I’m paying for it..well, never mind, that probably won’t make a difference.

I can say that you may find some interesting reading here at odd times, so please check back often. I hope to start making bi-weekly updates and entries. I guess we’ll see how that turns out.
