Redesign

Bear with me as I will be updating and redesigning my site throughout the summer.  I’ll try to keep posts current as I run into obstacles/issues with this process.  Hopefully you will enjoy what I come up with in the end.

Long Overdue

Yes, I’ve been a bad blogger. Time has gotten away from me and I apologize. Here’s what’s been going down.

FHSU – I’ve been working on the Fort Hays State University Foundation site. All has gone pretty well. Stressful at times, but it is all downhill from here. The site is live at the time of this writing. Please check it out and let me know what you think. This is the largest redesign that I’ve done so far, and, I reckon, the most successful. Having a long leash is pretty beneficial in web development and the Foundation project gave me the chance to try some new things design-wise.

NEW - I’m working on a project that is just in the beginning stages. Besides the regular work that I do for the company, I am starting to get into some web application management and implementation. I’m pretty excited about this opportunity although a little apprehensive at what’s to come. A short stint in London may be involved. (more…)

“To be or not to be”

Tags:, .

A couple of weeks ago I submitted an application for a Service Desk position at my current job. This would have been an awesome opportunity for me as I would have been closer to the Software Development team. That’s my ultimate goal with my current employer. I’ve done web app development in my current position, however the visibility is fairly low. Only about 5 people really use the software and just a handful of others that benefit from it’s use. So this position would allow me to get my name up a little higher and allow others to see some of my work.

There were a few concerning issues from the get go:

  • Schedule : (school is right smack in the middle of the day)
  • Training : (three weeks in VA)
  • Schedule : (conflicts with other job)

After an initial and second interview I was given the ‘bad news’. I say ‘bad news’ because it could turn out to be better this way. Now I won’t have to leave for three weeks in the middle of the semester, I won’t have to find a way to juggle both jobs and I won’t have to get up at 5:00 am for work. All good news, so I really believe that this is an opportunity that will come again, and hopefully when that happens I will be in a better position to take this job.

I’ve already been told that the main reason I wasn’t considered further was because of the scheduling issues, so at least I know I am qualified. I’ll let you know how things turn out as time goes on.
