The header graphic was created in Adobe Illustrator. The font is Garamound if I remember correctly.

The navigation bar was challenging. Rather than start from scratch I started with what someone had done previously in Dreamweaver. I may go back and redo the menu using jquery instead of Dreamweaver’s messy code, but it works well so I haven’t touched it. You’ll also see in another screen shot that I added sub links on the page itself so that if a user does not have javascript they will still be able to access all of the pages.

The drop down menu’s were created using a transparent gif. The ul blocks were given a negative margin in order to pull them up to cover the border of the main navigation bar, creating a seamless menu.

Here is just another large screen shot showing simple page elements. I didn’t get very fancy as the audience is alumni and professionals. Making the site easy to read was a high priority.

…and I’m redesigning again

So I haven’t been keeping my site up to date.  I’ve been awfully busy working as a consultant on a couple of web sites.  I’m also graduating in May, so you can guess that I probably won’t get much done here until after that.  I just wanted to put a post up to let you all know that I was still alive.  You can follow me on Twitter  if you want to keep up with what I’m doing.

Be on the lookout for my portfolio coming up in the next couple of months.

My Blackberry Experience

I told you earlier that I finally got rid of my old clunker phone, my wife and I upgraded to the Blackberry Pearl 8130, and I have to tell you that it has been one of the greatest months of my life.

At the beginning of July we finally decided that we had had enough with our crappy old phones.  She had an LG 5450, and I had the Kyocera 7135 Smartphone.  Both phones were old and outdated, and we had been looking at possibly getting the LG Glimmer, but I wasn’t fond of the metal case, weight, and sliding screen.  My wife didn’t like the size, but wanted a touch screen.  So after about an hour and a half we finally settled (I finally sold her) on the Blackberry Pearl.

The first day I was like a child again.  So many features and settings and choices that I couldn’t set the phone down.  It has only gotten worse.  I have to admit that I am addicted.  Luckily internet service and text messaging is included in the $89 monthly bill (for one phone), so there is no need to worry about number of texts sent/received or time spent on-line.  I’m not a bragging person, but pretty much everyone was jealous.  Even my wife was jealous after I downloaded vlingo.  So, being the good husband that I am, I took her phone away and installed vlingo (after testing thoroughly on my phone first).  She was impressed and has since used it to send me text messages.
